It’s good to be back!
It has seemed like a longer winter than normal. Sean suffered a concussion in a hockey game late in December and is still recovering. Additionally, a mid-March blizzard dumped about 15 inches of snow on us, prolonging winter for the time being.
Thank God for synthetic baseball fields! Central Connecticut State University was able to plow its baseball field in order to get in this past weekend’s three-game set with Mt. St. Mary’s, the Northeast Conference opener for both schools.
Not knowing how long Sean would last, the plan was to catch the last few innings of Saturday’s game. But with just two runs scored and 4 total hits, it was a quick game and we made it there for just the final inning.
Still, it was worth it.
CCSU’s Mike Appel was working on a no-hitter. After walking the lead-off batter in the top of the 9th, Appel induced a double play ground ball and harmless fly to left field to nail down the complete game, no-hit, 2-0 win for CCSU.
It’s the first no-hitter I can remember being at since my Little League days!
After the game, we were able to get MSM’s official lineup card. One of the CCSU players also threw Sean an NEC ball.
2017: 1 lineup cards (0 dugout/bullpen; 1 “official batting order”)
Lifetime: 122 lineup cards (87 dugout/bullpen; 33 “official batting order”; and 2 “relief pitcher usage”)
